Top Of The Funnel

The top of your funnel starts at the awareness stage for the customer. This is where they realize they have a need. 

The content put out for this stage of the funnel will mainly consist of advertisements and things that promote brand awareness, the goal being to get people to your website. Think broadcast advertisements, podcasts, Facebook ads, general educational blog posts, etc. Be sure to include a call-to-action at the end of any advertisements, as this is what is likely to move people to the next stage.

Middle Of The Funnel

The middle of the funnel is where the customer is learning more and beginning to consider your product or service. The goal in this stage is to turn the website visitors into actual leads by getting them to give you their contact information. 

To get that information, this is typically where you offer them more premium content, but only once they sign up for an email list. This could be a free ebook, mini-course, or a free trial, something more valuable than the general content from the top of the funnel.

Bottom Of The Funnel

The bottom of the funnel is where your leads will hopefully turn into customers. Any content you put out here should be telling them exactly why your solution is the best one for them. They are likely looking at other options at this point, so this content needs to be persuasive. 

Use testimonials and well-written copy on the sales page to seal the deal. 

Put Your Funnel Together

To build your funnel you first need to choose which section to focus on first.

This will depend on where your business is in its growth. If you are still starting out then you should start at the top of the funnel. But if you’re more established and already have leads you may want to work on the middle or bottom first.

Once you’ve chosen which section to focus on first, you can choose one or two types of content to utilize for that section. Don’t jump in with too many types of content at once, doing one or two things well is better than a lot of things done mediocre. 

Then, you can begin creating your content. Once you have one part of the funnel done and solid, you can build up the others and then work on connecting them.
